In Memoriam: Dr. Jack Templeton (1940-2015)

John M. “Jack” Templeton Jr., who passed away over the weekend at the age of seventy-five, performed a vital service in his decades promoting character development, the free society, and a better understanding of America’s core principles. A graduate of Yale University, he earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and spent many years as a board-certified pediatric surgeon. Dr. Templeton also served as president and chairman of the John Templeton Foundation, where he directed all of the foundation’s activities.

On March 28 of this year, ISI recognized Dr. Templeton with its highest honor, the Charles H. Hoeflich Lifetime Achievement Award. ISI trustee Edwin J. Feulner Jr. said it well when he remarked, in presenting the Hoeflich Award, “Dr. Jack is a champion of liberty in all aspects of human life: spiritual, religious, economic, and social. . . . Over his lifetime, Dr. Jack Templeton has clearly earned, clearly advocated, and has lived a free and virtuous life.” Dr. Templeton will be dearly missed.
